  • 5. Secure territorial rights for indigenous peoples

The Union of Indigenous Peoples of Tomsk Region is an indigenous NGO. The indigenous movement in Tomsk region started in 1980 and continues its work and activity nowadays.

The Union of Indigenous Peoples of Tomsk Region is an organization with the aim to support and protect traditional life of indigenous peoples in the region and developes initiatives and programs on environmental protection as well as work with different stakeholders at different levels.

The organization signs cooperation agreements with the parks and environmental areas, to support indigenous peoples' traditional economy.  

The initiatives carried out by the organization are various. Most of the effort goes to the the support of indigenous women through the development of projects on traditional businesses and capacity building for indigenous women. 

It also works for the preservation of traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, through making video storytelling and the incorporation of elders and youth on climate change issues.

The organization regularly publishes the week's news with the Newsletter service and shares it on the indigenous peoples' network.

Networking is one of the important activities of the organization. Several representatives are involved in the international discussions at the UN level. The organization seeks and developes cooperation with international and regional peers,  as well as it participates in international conferences and webinars.
